I started playing basketball a little later than most, 15 years old. A keen athlete at school, I had a love for sport and succeeded in different areas such as athletics and football. Then came my intro to the beautiful game that is basketball which stole my heart. I grew up watching Michael Jordan and was awestruck and inspired!
My basketball journey has given me so much richness in my life and many amazing memories I can't even begin to relay them all. Basketball gave me confidence and taught me discipline, endurance, resilience, strength and persistence. It has taken me overseas, given me friendships that I hold dear, a father figure in my Coach Jimmy Rogers and is most poignantly how I met my wife whom we share 3 wonderful children.
This is just a snapshot of what basketball has done in my life and I haven't even touched on the playing accolades and coaching yet!
I was fortunate enough to play basketball at the professional level in this country. Just a few of my highlights are being part of the London Leopards that won BBL and National Cup double, winning NBL D1 title with Solent Stars and numerous BBL and D1 Play-off finals appearances with these clubs and with my boyhood club Brixton Topcats.
My coaching career started when I was just 17 years old with Jimmy Rogers trusting me to run some school sessions and only two years later, still only 19, Jimmy asked me to coach the Topcats National League junior team.
A few coaching highlights to date have been watching many young talented players develop throughout my coaching career, leading Brixton Topcats to National League U18 Play-offs, leading Winchester Royals to National U14 Play-offs and taking South Regional squads to Manchester for National Aspire tournaments two consecutive years.
These are experiences that drive the passion I have to share my love of the game, my journey - ups, downs high and lows. It is both a blessing and privilege to be part of a players individual path and help them achieve their aspirations. I specialise in Elite player development which I facilitate through Elite Clinics and Elite small group sessions, 1 to 1's and through my role as Aspire South Region Boys Coach at Basketball England.
You can do all things but you will always need people to help you get there and believe in you....
"Show me a successful individual and I'll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don't care what you do for a living - if you do it well I'm sure there was someone cheering you on or showing you the way. A mentor". - Denzel Washington
Basketball can be so much more than a ball and a hoop....
Eternally grateful to my mentor Coach Jimmy Rogers of Brixton Topcats who very sadly left us on 1st October 2018 aged 78.
